Ancestral Futurism: Two Decades of Identity Design

Over the course of a two-decade career in graphic design, my approach to creating logos has evolved from foundational explorations into a distinct, mature philosophy that can be described as "Ancestral Futurism." Every mark in this logofolio represents a conscious effort to bridge the gap between profound cultural heritage and the sharp, functional geometry of modern minimalism. Drawing inspiration from the intricate mathematics of ancient Mayan glyphs, the rhythmic tension of traditional textiles, and the clean grid systems of the Bauhaus, these logos are not mere decorations. They are structurally sound visual systems designed to distill complex narratives into their most powerful and essential forms.

The diversity of the projects spanning these twenty years is a testament to the adaptability of this design language. This collection features work that resonates on both local and global scales—from shaping the institutional weight of Guatemala’s most prestigious cultural entities, like the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and the Festival del Centro Cultural Miguel Ángel Asturias, to injecting raw, ancestral energy into international pop culture with the Hunab-Ku typography for Iron Maiden's The Book of Souls. Whether crafting the woven, architectural lettering for Ixbalanqué craft beer or developing the dynamic, forward-thinking branding for the Advanced Music Week (SMA) and Cine Con Orgullo, each logo is tailored to embody the unique heartbeat of its subject.

Ultimately, a logo must be more than a static image; it must be a living entity capable of growing with the brand it represents. Over the years, the focus has remained steadfast on creating marks and custom typography—like the predatory stance of the Balam font or the geometric purity of the SMA identity—that command attention and stand the test of time. This logofolio is a visual archive of that ongoing journey. It is a celebration of the belief that true graphic design respects its roots while relentlessly pushing toward the future, ensuring that every brand identity not only speaks to the present moment but echoes across generations.
