Roots & Grids: Visualizing Culture

The projects in this portfolio represent an ongoing exploration of "Ancestral Futurism"—a design philosophy where rich cultural heritage intersects with the precise, functional geometry of modern minimalism. This collection spans high-impact institutional branding and global cultural touchstones, illustrating how historical roots can be translated into contemporary visual systems. Highlights include the monumental identity for the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Guatemala and the architectural tribute for the 15º Festival de Junio at the CCMAA, alongside the dynamic, kinetic branding developed for the advanced music scene through the Semana de Música Avanzada (SMA). Each piece demonstrates a commitment to building living identities that carry weight, rhythm, and timelessness.

Beyond large-scale institutional work, this selection delves deeply into custom typography, experimental editorial design, and vibrant cultural advocacy. From the heavy, predatory architecture of the Balam typeface and the internationally recognized Hunab-Ku font featured on Iron Maiden's The Book of Souls, to the woven, textile-inspired lettering for IxBalanqué craft beer, typography is consistently treated as a structural art form. Whether crafting atmospheric album art for Nostalgia or using inclusive, high-contrast scanlines to visualize the spectrum of stories for the Cine con Orgullo festival, these projects prove that powerful design does not just decorate—it communicates the very essence of its subject.
