Guardians of the Canopy: A Mural Concept for Supermercados La Torre

Designing for a brand deeply embedded in the daily lives of Guatemalans presents a unique and exciting canvas. When the opportunity arose to design a mural for Supermercados La Torre, I envisioned a piece that would resonate with the vibrant energy of the community the supermarket serves. Although my project was not ultimately selected as the winning entry, the experience of developing this concept was a massive creative victory in itself. Participating in this call pushed me to think about public art as a living narrative that connects with people during their everyday routines.

The beating heart of this mural is rooted directly in Guatemalan fauna, specifically drawing upon the majestic presence of the jaguar and the quetzal. By intertwining the fierce, grounded power of the jaguar with the elevated, dynamic grace of the quetzal, the design creates a unified symbol of pure strength. This concept translates into a bold, geometric visual language—an extension of my daily drawing practice and structural design philosophy. I wanted to capture the essence of these national guardians using high-contrast palettes and kinetic lines, turning a simple commercial wall into a dynamic focal point that pulses with the organic beauty of our wildlife.

Even when a design doesn't take the top prize, the journey of bringing an idea from a rough sketch to a full-scale digital mockup is a vital part of artistic growth. This La Torre mural concept proudly takes its place in my portfolio as a testament to my commitment to elevating our local visual landscape. It stands as a vibrant reminder that every project, realized or conceptual, is a valuable opportunity to honor our roots, experiment with form, and share a bold vision of Guatemalan strength with the broader community.
